Our History & Impact

For 60 years, Kitsap Community Resources (KCR) has stood alongside our neighbors, creating opportunities, offering hope, and working hand-in-hand to build a stronger community.

Founded in 1965 as part of the national War on Poverty, KCR began with a simple but powerful mission: to provide resources and support that help individuals and families achieve stability and self-sufficiency. What started as a small local effort has grown into a cornerstone of Kitsap County, serving thousands of residents every year.

Our Journey Through the Decades

1960s–1970s:

KCR launched programs to address urgent needs—food, housing, and employment—while laying the foundation for long-term community support.

1980s–1990s:

Services expanded to include early childhood education, energy assistance, and housing stability programs, reaching more families than ever before.

2000s–2010s:

KCR grew into a comprehensive network of resources—connecting residents with job training, small business development, veteran support, and family services.

Today:

KCR continues to innovate, offering over 20 programs that serve more than 10,000 Kitsap residents annually. From early learning to senior support, our work helps every generation thrive.
